Anonymous asked: What IS the proper length of ties? Sorry if you've posted this already.

around the belt-buckle area. meaning the point of the tie should be somewhere between a centimetre above and a centimetre below the belt buckle — preferably just slap-bang in the middle, really. (and no, i don’t think i’ve posted about this before.)

btw anyone and everyone is free to ask me clothing/fashion/suit questions at any time, i am happy to (try and) help.

Mads Mikkelsen’s costumes simultaneously crack me up and make me sigh because they are soooo good. Here, we’re getting to see Hannibal at his absolute peak: taller, better-looking and better dressed than anyone else onscreen. The rest of the cast are serviceable crime procedural characters wearing everyday American TV clothes, but Hannibal looks like… well, exactly what he is. A luxury-obsessed European aristocrat and connoisseur, secretly looking down his nose at all the small-minded American plebs who eat food from chain restaurants and dress like Will Graham. Hannibal: “Apéritif” (No major spoilers.)

I’m going to take this moment to coo over Reese’s suit- specifically the cuff buttons. I’ve never seen a suit with the buttons overlapped like that before.
I think I’m in love.

Overlapping cuff buttons like this are known as kissing/stacked buttons or waterfall buttons. It’s basically a stylistic thing, and is sometimes interpreted as a sign that the suit is better (ie, handmade rather than mass-produced), although you shouldn’t take it as read that every suit with kissing buttons is bespoke.
The actual buttonholes are far more important. Reese’s suit may well be off-the-rack because although it has waterfall buttons, there’s no visible sign of buttonholes underneath. This means the manufacturer just sewed up the cuff and plopped a bunch of buttons on top to make it look “real”. Cuffs with fully functional buttons/buttonholes are known as surgeons’ cuffs, because the wearer can open the cuff and role their sleeves up.
